Come and visit us on Friday April 2nd 2010 for our Annual Open Day
Racehorse Ownership at Chris Thornton Racing
Full Ownership
YOU own the horse and are responsible for ALL of the training costs as well as receiving ALL of the owner's prize money.
Bring a horse you already own or tell me what type of horse you're looking for (Bumper/Hurdler/Chaser/Flat) and I'll advise you every step of the way.
Shares There are usually shares available (e.g. 10%, 25%, etc) in a few horses. The cost of these shares will vary depending on the value of the horse and the size of the share. Training costs will be pro-rata, according to the size of the share.
Syndicate The least expensive option and a great way to start! A fixed monthly fee will give you a smaller share in one or more horses, depending on the syndicate.
Leasing
Some horses may be available to lease or part-lease.
This is a good introduction to owning a horse yourself as you only pay the monthly training costs and don't pay the initial purchase price that you would for full ownership of a horse.
Chris Thornton's Training Fees: * are competitively priced at £1,200 per month. * include Blacksmiths and Veterinary costs, unless anaesthetic is required.
Other costs:
Middleham Gallops FeesRacing Expenses: horse transportation, stable staff expenses
Weatherby's (Administrators of horseracing in the UK) Fees for the following: 'Authority to Act' (so trainer can make race entries on your behalf); Registration as an owner/partnership; Registration of racing colours; Having racing colours made; Naming of your horse.
Chris is more than happy to advise new owners about any of the above costs.
